The Food Map – Find Help in Your Community

One of the most frequently asked questions about Good Shepherd Food-Bank is, “Do you serve people in need directly?” The answer to this question is no, we serve 600 partner organizations across the state that, in turn, serve people directly. And while our work does not include direct service, we often talk with people who come to us looking for help. Whether on the phone or in person, people often look to the Food-Bank to find food in times of crisis and we do everything in our power to make sure they get assistance.

In an effort to better assist people looking for emergency food, we created a new tool on our website – the Food Map. This map uses Google Maps technology to show the location of our partner agencies that serve the public directly. By typing in your address or your town and state, you can find information about food pantries, soup kitchens, and other assistance programs in your area.

We are hoping this new tool will be useful to people throughout Maine who are in need of help to get them through tough times. It’s important to remember that hunger is closer than you think – it exists in every county and every town in our state. So if you are faring better than some of our less fortunate neighbors, we encourage you to use the Food Map to locate your local hunger relief organization and then call them to see how you can help.
