Good Shepherd Food Bank Representatives to Attend National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference

AUBURN, Maine – Three representatives from Good Shepherd Food Bank will be traveling to Washington D.C. to participate in the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference from March 1-3, 2020. They will be joining more than 1,000 advocates from across the country to meet with Members of Congress and their key staffers to discuss food insecurity.

“The conference is an important piece of communication between Maine’s food bank and Maine’s members of congress,” stated Amy Regan Gallant, vice president of Public Policy and Research for Good Shepherd Food Bank. “We will be meeting with Senator Collins, Senator King, Congresswoman Pingree, and Congressman Golden to discuss how to strengthen federal nutrition programs to fit the needs of Maine’s hungry.”

Participants share information and learn the best outreach and program practices from other states and localities, fill in the gaps in food service for millions of low-income children and identify creative ideas for new and innovative approaches to ending hunger. The National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference, co-sponsored by the Food Research & Action Center and Feeding America in cooperation with the National CACFP Forum, draws anti-poverty advocates; federal, state and local government officials, child advocates; representatives of food banks and food rescue organizations; sponsoring organizations and nutrition and anti-obesity groups.
