Good Shepherd Food Bank Launches New Website for Nutritious and Affordable Recipes

Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine’s largest hunger-relief organization, is launching www.NutritionForME.org, a one-stop online resource to find simple, nutritious, and easy-to-make recipes using everyday ingredients.

Created by the Food Bank’s Nutrition and Education team, the site allows users to search through hundreds of recipes to see what they can make with items in their pantries, cupboards, and refrigerators. Many of the recipes include ingredients distributed by the Food Bank’s network of over 500 partner agencies.

“The Food Bank’s Cooking Matters program empowers individuals and families to stretch their food budgets to create healthy meals,” said Courtney Kennedy, nutrition and education manager at Good Shepherd Food Bank. “Since 1993, we have provided hands-on cooking and nutrition classes led by volunteer professional chefs and nutritionists. NutritionForME.org bridges our classes and at-home cooking, when the participant has ingredients but are not sure what to make with them.”

The easy-to-follow recipes are approved by the Food Bank’s nutrition and education team. The site is a valuable resource for anyone looking for meal ideas, including featured seasonal dishes that rotate on the homepage. Some recipes offer demonstration videos, and all have nutritional labels to help users make the best choices possible for themselves and their family’s health. Once on the recipe page, there are options for a printer-friendly version of the recipe and sharing the recipe to social media sites.

Users interested in submitting an affordable, easy-to-make recipe can do so by clicking the “Suggest a Recipe” button on the site and filling out the information needed for submission. The Food Bank is excited to have the community’s help building this much-needed resource for healthy cooking on a tight budget.

“NutritionForMe.org is a great addition to the Food Bank’s multifaceted approach to end hunger in Maine by 2025, by providing a resource to help increase Mainers’ access to more nutritious food,” said Kristen Miale, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank. The Food Bank is in the midst of raising $250 million in an unprecedented statewide Campaign to End Hunger with a goal that all Mainers experiencing hunger will have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive, when and where they need it.
