Federal Nutrition Programs
Our nation is known as the Land of Opportunity. Yet we have 50 million people in America who don’t always have enough food to eat.
As the effects of the Great Recession linger on, many individuals who never thought they would need a helping hand have turned to food banks and the federal safety-net for help with the most basic human necessity—food.
When people in our communities don’t have enough food to get through the day, it costs us all. Food insecurity creates health problems. Children struggle to learn. Workers are less productive. Opportunities are lost.
Our vision of a hunger-free Maine means that families have a solid foundation and people are able to create new opportunities because nobody has to worry about finding enough food for their family.
Federal Nutrition Programs play a vital role in providing this solid foundation for families.
