Tell Congress: Protect SNAP!

Hunger in Maine is at its highest rate in nearly 10 years, but Congress is considering drastic changes SNAP, making it harder for children, families, and older Mainers to access the nutritious food we all need to thrive.

Tell Lawmakers to Protect SNAP!

The data in Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap report is clear: Hunger continues to affect every corner of our state – from Kittery to Fort Kent. Yet, legislators are considering harmful changes to critical nutrition programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

SNAP is the Maine’s most impactful hunger-relief program. Cutting these benefits means that it will be even harder for families and individuals to access the nutritious food we all need every day.

SNAP also provides an economic boost for local economies – especially in rural areas – as SNAP benefits are often spent locally at small grocery stores and farmers markets.

The legislation is sometimes positioned as shifting SNAP costs to states, but in reality, it would force Maine to reduce benefits, limit eligibility or raise taxes – the opposite of what families, children, and older Mainers need to thrive.

Urge your senators to protect SNAP to make it easier—not harder—for hardworking families to put food on the table.
