Taylor’s Story: A Mother’s Drive to Provide for Her Family

Taylor is tenaciously resourceful.

A mother of three boys ages eight, four and two, Taylor is familiar with doing what it takes to ensure her family has the resources needed to thrive.

“As a single mom, I don’t have anybody to lean on. It is me. And the moments that I would feel like I just want to give up, I can’t because I have three kids to look after and provide for, so you get this drive that comes out of nowhere,” she said. “I’ve had to push through a lot to make sure my kids have everything they need.”

Taylor is working full-time, but she hasn’t hesitated to visit food pantries in the past to ensure her family has the food they need to thrive.

“Providing a balanced meal to myself and my family is a necessity. It’s not a luxury,” she said. “That’s just a common right that all of us have as humans, and we shouldn’t feel guilty for getting assistance in those areas.”

For many single parents like Taylor, food pantries can be a critical lifeline. Even when working full-time, the rising costs of groceries, childcare and housing can make it difficult to keep the refrigerator full. Food pantries help bridge that gap by providing fresh produce, pantry staples and family-friendly foods that allow parents to prepare healthy meals at home.

These resources also help offer a peace of mind beyond groceries. For single mothers juggling work, childcare and household responsibilities, knowing that there is a place to turn during challenging times can ease some of the daily pressure. It allows parents to focus on their children, their jobs and building stability, rather than constantly worrying about how to stretch the next grocery trip.

Food pantries also play an important role in supporting families with young children. Many provide items that are especially helpful for parents of little ones, such as milk, eggs, fruit, cereal and snacks. Some even offer diapers, baby food or connections to other community resources that help families stay on their feet.

For Taylor, visiting a food pantry wasn’t about giving up independence, it was about making sure her children have what they need to grow and thrive.

Taylor is proud of the life she’s been able to give her children – through challenging times and good ones. And although the family is facing a tough time right now, Taylor isn’t giving up. Far from it. In fact, she’s bravely forging a new path forward for herself and her three boys.

Life takes you on adventures that maybe you weren’t expecting,” she said. “I really enjoyed my time at home with (my sons) but we’re all just navigating this new life together.”
