Good Shepherd Food Bank stands in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ neighbors in grieving the senseless loss of life at Club Q in Colorado Springs over the weekend. We also stand in solidarity with our employees and their family members and friends, and all community members who are experiencing deep trauma and pain in the wake of this hateful crime.
We stand firm in our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and acknowledge the historic and continued violence against the LGBTQ+ community. We also acknowledge that hunger is rooted in the systemic inequities and injustices that cause and perpetuate poverty and food insecurity. Our work is critical to undoing systems of oppression that deeply impact the LGBTQ+ community, and particularly queer communities of color. We stand in solidarity to renounce hateful and violent acts and to commit to addressing the disproportionate impacts that hunger and poverty have within these communities.
