Bangor Savings Bank Joins Good Shepherd Food Bank for “Give a Dollar, Feed a Family”
Donations will be collected at all 56 branch locations from September 10 – 14
Portland – September 6, 2012: Bangor Savings Bank is taking a leadership role in the fight against hunger in Maine with the upcoming “Give a Dollar, Feed a Family” campaign.
During the week of September 10 – 14, Bangor Savings Bank will accept donations for Good Shepherd Food Bank at all 56 branch locations. Donations will also be accepted online at www.MaineHungerAction.org.
The bank is taking on this fundraising challenge with Good Shepherd Food Bank as part of Hunger Action Month, which takes place each year in September. Hunger Action Month is an effort to mobilize the public to raise awareness and take action in support of domestic hunger relief. The campaign is organized by Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief charity, and its network of 202 food banks across the county, including Good Shepherd Food Bank in Maine.
Hunger is an issue that almost 49 million people in the US have to face on a year-round basis. In Maine, nearly 200,000 people, or 15 percent of households, do not have access to enough food. One in 4 Maine children lack access to enough food to live a healthy life.
“Bangor Savings is proud to take the lead with the Good Shepherd Food Bank on raising awareness about our nation’s hunger problem and its implications for the state of Maine,” said Jim Conlon, President & CEO of Bangor Savings Bank. “We feel it is important for all of us to recognize our resources, and then use those resources to help those who are less fortunate. With 56 branch locations that stretch across Maine, our goal is to make a very big impact during Hunger Action Month.”
